Mevagissey
A visit to Mevagissey is one of the highlights of a stay at Treworgans Accessible Holiday Cottages in Cornwall. Just a short drive from the cottages, this charming harbour village offers a taste of traditional Cornish life, with colourful boats, winding streets, and plenty of seaside charm. With a bit of planning, Mevagissey can be a rewarding and accessible day out for wheelchair users and visitors with limited mobility.
You can drive from Treworgans to Mevagissey in around 25 minutes. The journey passes through rolling countryside and leads directly to several car parks near the harbour. The Willow Car Park at the top of the village offers designated accessible parking bays and level access onto the main street. From here, you can enjoy a gentle stroll or wheel downhill toward the harbour, taking in views of the sea and the bustling fishing boats.
The harbour area has a mixture of level and slightly sloping surfaces. The inner harbour is the most accessible, with paved walkways and benches where you can rest and watch the activity. The Mevagissey Aquarium, located in the old lifeboat house, is free to enter (although donations are appreciated) and has step-free access, making it a good stop for visitors of all ages.
For refreshments, several cafés and pubs offer ground-floor access and outdoor seating with sea views. Excellent Fish ‘n Chips can be found around the harbour too. Many local establishments are happy to assist with ramps or space for wheelchairs if needed. Accessible toilets are available in the harbour area and signposted clearly.
If you’d like to explore further, the nearby Lost Gardens of Heligan, just a few miles from Mevagissey, also provide accessible paths and facilities — a perfect addition to your day out.
